Columbia Canoe Club Membership Application Click the above link to get a membership application.-* Sorry link is inactive at this time, Contact Sue at baglady@charter.net Remember that all members are sponsored by current members (see below) who have been in the club at least one year. Sponsors are responsible for those that they bring in for the first year and should be sure they teach their new charges the methods of handling boats and equipment as well as abiding by safety and Park Rules. If for any reason you are not able to do this, please contact a board member to discuss any issues. Reminder of the rules Our sponsorship program that has been in effect now for a seven years has become a successful way of bringing in new members. Ideally, if you feel someone would make a great addition to the club, you may sponsor that new member if you have been a member in good standing for a full year. We have seen less damage at the clubhouse, and more care taken with the boats since the program has been in place. It also takes the responsibility off the directors and for that they are thankful. One concern however is consistency. Do you as a member, really understand some of the rules and procedures for handling the boats? We can all use a refresher course, so this article will touch those items that seem to be misunderstood, or incorrectly explained. Hopefully, it will dispel some misconceptions.
1. Everyone in a boat must have a lifejacket, children 12 and under must wear them by CT state law. We ask that all minors wear them and encourage the adults to do the same.
2. Minors may never be left alone at the clubhouse or on the water without adult supervision. This rule can only be waived in the case of Olympic training athletes in arrangement with coach and parent. This policy may only be waived for training purposes with written agreement between the Board and parent or guardian of the minor. This is very important for our insurance and we hope that you will not jeopardize your membership by disregarding the policy.
3. Only use boats for which you are qualified, do not use boats marked 2.5 or 3 unless you have had specific instruction by one of the board members. #3 boats are extremely fragile and very expensive, Do not touch.
4. Fulfill your club obligation by volunteering for at least one club event yearly. ------------------------ |
